/ How it works

From blank panels to lettered pages, in seven steps.

No layers, no menus to hunt through: you choose, you type, you drag. Everything saves itself as you go.

Step 1: Bring your pages. — **Step 1 · Bring your pages**Drop in your own art — any PNG or JPG, one page or a whole book — or open an episode straight from Comic Pipeline, with the dialogue already attached to every panel.

Step 2: Pick a balloon. — **Step 2 · Pick a balloon**Browse 586 hand-drawn balloons in 15 styles: speech, thought, whisper, shout, caption. Or draw a brand-new one in the generator.

Step 3: Type your line. — **Step 3 · Type your line**Write the words and they set themselves neatly inside the balloon. Choose a comic font, the colours and an outline, so the text reads on any art.

Step 4: Put it on the panel. — **Step 4 · Put it on the panel**Send it to the page and drag it where it belongs — or, with a script, click a line and the balloon appears beside the character who says it, never over a face.

Step 5: Point it at the speaker. — **Step 5 · Point it at the speaker**Mirror or flip the balloon to turn its tail towards whoever is talking; the words stay upright. Resize, rotate and fade it with one slider each, and undo any step.

Step 6: Save the page. — **Step 6 · Save the page**Save the finished panel as PNG or JPG, at print resolution, numbered for you and never overwriting your files. The app moves you straight to the next panel.

Click a line. The balloon appears.

Open an episode and each panel comes with its dialogue. Click a line and a balloon lands beside the right character, its tail pointing at them, never over a face. Don’t like the spot? Drag it anywhere.

Pick a shape, type your line and watch it set itself neatly inside — centred, wrapped, never spilling over. Change the font, the colours, the outline and the size until it feels right.

Jagged bursts for shouting, slanted plates for the narrator, dotted outlines for whispers, clouds for thoughts. The right shape tells the reader how a line sounds before they read it.

Bubble Maker builds the bubble — shape, text, font, colours. Compositor puts it on the page and exports it. Send to Compositor is the only thing between them. That is most of the application's complexity.

02LetteringDrag the text on the bubble itself

Put the mouse on the words and move them — not through coordinates. The threshold is 4 px, so a click stays a click
TEXT X / TEXT Y sliders when you want the same position on ten bubbles
⊕ CENTRE brings lettering back to the middle, however far it went and however many blocks it is in

03Fonts & colourTwelve faces listed, six inside the box

Six ship inside the application — Bangers, Permanent Marker, Boogaloo, Fredoka One, Russo One, Comic Neue. These always work, with no internet
The other six — Comic Sans MS, Wildwords Roman, CC Meanwhile, Anime Ace, Badaboom, Komika — are used if they are already installed on your computer. When they are not, their card says so instead of failing quietly
Load your own: .ttf, .otf, .woff. WOFF is unpacked for you
An imported font is saved and travels with the project, so it opens the same on another computer
Every card previews in its real face and in the text colour
Forty quick colours, one click each, plus separate colours for the text and for the outline of the letters
A comic outline can be put on the letters rather than the bubble, in its own colour, so white text still reads on light artwork. Off until you ask

RECENT keeps the last twenty-four, without repeats, and tidies itself when you delete a bubble. The divider above it drags: give it room and you see more at once
Thumbnails keep their proportions, and the preview stops at 1200 px so a large library stays quick
Delete one or empty the lot — both ask first
A bubble pressed for the first time opens as it was drawn: it does not inherit the rotation or mirroring of the one before it

Tick working with several bubbles in SETTINGS + COLORS and the board holds several, each with its own text, font and colours
The one you are typing in stays large in the middle; push the others to the edge with right-click or ⇲, bring one back with ⊙
+ adds one, − takes one off, 🗑 clears the bench — and Send to Compositor sends them all
With the tick off, the application works on one bubble exactly as before
📌 in the header keeps the window above the others, so a script can stay open beside it
Rotate 90°, flip and mirror to point the tail at the speaker — the lettering stays upright and where you put it
ZOOM is how close you are standing; SIZE is how big the bubble really is. Only SIZE reaches a file, and 1:1 puts the view back

06The pageCompose the panel, then move to the next

Load several pages at once; they line up in a strip below
Bubbles drag, resize from the corners, rotate and change opacity
They snap to the centre within 6 px, with guides — Shift turns that off
Zoom 1×–8× under the cursor with the wheel; 0 fits the page. Pan by dragging an empty area, Space+drag, or the middle button
Duplicate lands 30 px off the original; layers move forward and back; Delete removes, Shift+Delete without asking
Delete a bubble and the one that took its place is selected, so you keep working
Saving marks that page done, counts it, and moves you to the next unfinished one
It warns above 40 megapixels and above 61 pages, and only the open page keeps full-resolution pixels — a long book does not fill the memory

07ExportRedrawn for print, not enlarged

Multiplier 1×–4×: at 2× a 420 px bubble is saved 840 px wide — redrawn from the shape and the font, not blown up from a picture
Quality: Maximum raises the multiplier by itself until an imported drawing comes out 1:1 with its own resolution — capped at 6×, at the source, and at 4096 px wide
300 DPI from the right-click menu on Save
A finished page: PNG, or JPG at quality 75 / 92 / 100; 2048, 4096, 8192 or the original resolution; 300 DPI for print
Saved straight into a folder you choose, numbered for you, and never overwriting what is there
Generated bubbles are re-rendered at the page's resolution, so the lettering stays vector-clean. Any drop in resolution is announced, not done quietly

No internet, to start or to work. No .NET, no Java, nothing else to install — it brings what it needs. No administrator rights. It saves as you go and recovers on startup, and a single project file holds everything: bubbles, pages, fonts and settings. That file is your backup and the way you move the work to another machine.
